Audiology training programs should consider structured, evidence-based counseling curricula to better prepare students for clinical practice, but individual practicing audiologists need not change their own patient-care approach based on this study.

Improving how counseling skills are taught in audiology programs could raise the quality of patient-centered care that graduates deliver from day one of practice.
