I talk about fitting hearing aids using real ear measurement frequently on my channel. This test measures the amount of amplification coming out of the hearing aids inside of the patient's ear. This is important because every ear canal is unique, and the size and shape of the ear impacts that amount of sound reaching the eardrum. The truth is, though, that fitting hearing aids is an art AND a science. As this patient's experience demonstrates, even hearing aids that perfectly match their prescription aren't going to be right for every patient.
