Cleft lip and palate is a highly prevalent birth defect affecting the upper lip and palate both aesthetically and functionally. Different techniques have been described throughout history, and during the last decades, pre- and postsurgical treatments have been added. The aim of this study is to evaluate the impact of the surgical treatment based on the surgical nasoalveolar molding method.

No actionable change for audiologists — this article covers a surgical technique for cleft lip/palate repair that falls outside the scope of audiology practice.
Cleft palate is associated with conductive hearing loss and Eustachian tube dysfunction, but this surgical technique article has minimal direct relevance to audiological management.
- 01SNAM is a presurgical technique used to reshape tissues before cleft lip and palate repair.
- 02Unilateral cleft lip/nose/palate is a common craniofacial birth defect.
- 03Published in the Journal of Craniofacial Surgery; primarily surgical in scope.
- 04Cleft palate patients often have co-occurring hearing issues, but this article does not address them.
- 05Audiologists may encounter these patients in multidisciplinary cleft teams but this content is non-actionable for hearing care.
SNAM technique is effective for repair of unilateral cleft lip, nose, and palate.
