Determinants of quality of life among patients with chronic otitis media: a multivariable analysis

A dispatch from PubMed — filed

Our study aimed to identify the independent demographic and clinical factors associated with quality of life (QoL) in patients with chronic otitis media (COM), using the Chronic Otitis Media Questionnaire-12 (COMQ-12) as a disease-specific assessment tool. Multivariable regression analysis was applied to determine which variables most significantly influence patient-reported QoL.

✦ Clinical Takeaway ✦

Audiologists and ENT clinicians should be aware of the demographic and clinical factors linked to poorer quality of life in chronic otitis media patients, but specific factor findings are not yet available to review; await full-text access before adjusting counselling or triage protocols.

✦ Why It Matters ✦

Identifying independent predictors of quality of life in chronic otitis media can help clinicians prioritise care and tailor interventions for the patients most likely to be affected.

✦ Key Points ✦
  1. 01Multivariable analysis was used to isolate independent predictors of quality of life in chronic otitis media patients.
  2. 02Both demographic (e.g., age, sex) and clinical (e.g., disease severity) factors were examined.
  3. 03Published in European Archives of Otorhinolaryngology (2026), a peer-reviewed journal.
  4. 04Findings could inform patient counselling and prioritisation in ENT and audiology clinics.
  5. 05Full factor-specific results require access to the complete manuscript.
✦ Claims & Evidence ✦

Multivariable analysis can identify independent demographic and clinical determinants of quality of life in chronic otitis media patients.
