Phonak has just launched Roger On Sphere™, bringing its groundbreaking Sphere AI technology to a wireless remote microphone for the first time! But could this be a game changer for people who struggle to understand conversations in noisy environments? At EUHA 2026 in Hannover, I caught up with Alain Kertész, Senior Director Roger at Phonak, to find out exactly what makes the NEW Phonak Roger On Sphere different from previous Roger microphones, and who could benefit from it. Roger On Sphere uses AI-powered, real-time speech-from-noise separation to help people with hearing loss follow conversations in challenging listening environments, including busy restaurants, meetings, group conversations, and situations where the speaker is some distance away. In this exclusive HearingTracker interview, we discuss: ✅ What is Phonak Roger On Sphere and how does it work? ✅ How does Sphere AI technology improve speech understanding in background noise? ✅ Why might you benefit from a remote microphone even if you already wear Phonak Sphere hearing aids? ✅ Can Roger On Sphere work with hearing aids from other manufacturers, including Oticon, ReSound, Signia, Starkey and Widex? ✅ What about cochlear implants, including Advanced Bionics? ✅ Who should consider Roger technology, and is it only for people with severe hearing loss? As an audiologist who's fitted Roger systems for many years, I also share some real-life examples of how remote microphones can make a difference for people with hearing loss. Importantly, Roger On Sphere isn't exclusively for Phonak hearing aid wearers. Compatibility with other hearing aids and cochlear implants is possible using appropriate Roger receivers or accessories, although functionality and setup vary. If you've ever struggled to follow conversations in background noise, this is a technology worth knowing about.
