In this video, I’m looking at XanderGlasses: real-time captioning glasses designed for people with significant hearing challenges, including those who still struggle even with hearing aids, cochlear implants, remote microphones, or other assistive technology. These are not hearing aids. They are not designed to replace hearing aids or cochlear implants. Instead, they are designed to supplement existing hearing technology by converting speech into text and displaying captions in your field of view. I’ll explain how XanderGlasses work, who they may help most, what makes them different from phone-based captioning apps, the real-world study results that caught my attention, and the limitations you need to know before considering them. If speech sounds loud enough but still does not make sense, this may be one of the most interesting hearing technologies I’ve tested.
