Vestibular schwannoma (VS) is a benign tumor that originates from the Schwann cells of the vestibular nerve sheath in the internal auditory canal. This retrospective study collected data from patients with VS who underwent surgical treatment to identify their demographic characteristics and audiometric features.
The audiological profiles described (e.g., asymmetric sensorineural hearing loss, poor word recognition scores) reinforce established red-flag criteria; audiologists should continue to refer patients with these features for MRI, consistent with current guidelines.
Characterising audiological red flags for vestibular schwannoma supports earlier referral and diagnosis, which is critical given the tumour's impact on hearing and quality of life.
