A lot of people think the hearing aid fitting is the finish line: you have your hearing test, your hearing aids are programmed, they are hopefully verified using real ear measurements, and then you walk out expecting perfect hearing. But in reality, the fitting is only the beginning. In this video, I explain five things you should never do after getting hearing aids fitted and, more importantly, what you should do instead if you want the best possible results. We’ll cover why you shouldn’t only wear your hearing aids in difficult situations, why new hearing aids can sound strange at first, why follow-up appointments are so important, how blocked wax filters can make hearing aids seem broken, and why real ear measurements are essential for a proper hearing aid fitting. If your new hearing aids sound too loud, too sharp, strange, uncomfortable, or disappointing, don’t give up too quickly.
